Check out this short video on what some of the audience thought of 'The Writers' Room'! As it makes it's London tour from Belfast this summer. THE WRITERS' ROOM by Michael Shannon This fast paced, hilariously dark one act play is a comedy thriller from young up-and-coming Irish writer Michael Shannon. With witty and intelligent writing Shannon keeps the tension rising and the jokes coming as the world around these writers unravels. Once a week, four very different writers meet up to rip apart each others work. Kirk can't quit setting his stories in space. Sweet MT's one-woman show is missing a good monologue. Ryan hasn't the guts to confront life on or off the page. And Beth is desperately searching for an ending. Today when they arrive for their meeting a script is sitting on the table waiting for them. It's called 'The Writers' Room'. It's about four writers, has a dead body and not many pages left. It appeared first at Pop-Up Pick 'n' Mix at the Brian Friel Theatre, rehearsal room in June 2011.
Up-and-coming journalist Dempsey is a N.I.P.P.L.E. (Northern Irish Professional Person Living in England) with a lot on his mind. He's been sent home to Belfast to make a documentary on the changing face of good ol' Norn Iron, before he can escape back to his adopted London.

At home he must face his father (obsessed with Marxism and eco coffins), his mother (convinced his father has Alzheimer's), and his old school buddy Mark, who thinks it's time Dempsey told his family the truth about himself.

This is a full live performance recording of the rehearsed reading. Presented by Accidental Theatre Productions as part of 'VI', 6 rehearsed readings by 6 new writers over 6 months.

Staring:

Dave Fleming DEMPSEY
David Bell MARK
Olivia O'Kane MARTHA
Fra Gunn TOM
Kim Moylan ANGE

All actors also play other characters that feature.

The American Hotel Rehearsed Reading

A single hotel room in a lonely town might hold the secret to time travel - tunnels that can lead people back to that mythical point in their lives where everything went wrong ... at least that’s what Joe and Malone have heard. But they’ve got a dead body to deal with before they can dig their way out of past follies. Jaki McCarrick’s play The American Hotel twists the idea of what’s before us and what’s behind us.

This is a full recording of the live rehearsed reading performance. Presented by Accidental Theatre Productions as part of The Biscuit Tin Readings, an assortment of new plays.

The Writers' Room by Michael Shannon

Once a week, four writers meet up and discuss each others work. They rip scripts apart, scene by scene ... kill off characters for the sake of cheap drama ... wipe out worlds. And then they get started on each other. Today the script they find waiting for them is called 'The Writers Room' ... it has four characters, all writers ... a dead body ... and not many pages left ... How does it end?
